This is a place that all the locals are talking about!
Approximately 10 miles of trails, and various group rides throughout the week.
Area is mostly flat with some interesting features.
Editor's Note (July 13, 2009): WOW, What are place to ride! Incredibly well maintained and marked trails, great single-track with lots of curves, not technical. Also a great place to go if you have people in your party who don't want to do single-track as there are also some really nice, level dirt roads around the perimeter of the park. Find your way to the dam and ride across the road on the top to a really nice picnic area with a gazebo, benchs, picnic tables, and great views! My oldest son and I road many of the trails on July 12th and we will be posting pictures soon. We road the following trails - and they were all great (total distance about 6.1 miles):
- Moose Gully - Nice single track.
- Pine Snake - Great single track trail through a pine forest. Quite and cool.
- Bee - Single track
- Old Bench -Single track
- Lost Wall - Like the name implies, there is a great old stone wall and an old stone cellar near the beginning of this single track trail.
- Chicken Ravine - Single track
- Whaleback - Nice single track with a clean pond mid-way. Also some nice exposed rock area by the pond.
- Heritage - One of the wide dirt roads.
- Coleman- Wide dirt road
- Un-named dirt road trail to the top of the dam. At the top of the dam is a pave road - go over the dam to the picnic area, go in the other direction ot return to the parking lots.
Directions:
- From the South or North - Take 93 North to Route 127 South (Exit 21). Parking lot is 3.2 miles on your left.
- From the East - Take Route 11/3 past 93 into Franklin. Turn right onto Route 127 North (New Hampton Road). After several miles, turn right onto Granite Street. There are several parking lots on Granite Strett.

Please respect the following rules while at the dam.
a. Obey any order given by a Ranger without complaint please! We are guests. They are the boss and are concerned about your safety.
b. The only place on the dam itself which is OK to ride is the paved road. Do not ride on any of the rip-rap dam walls. Do not ride on any of the grassed areas of the dam including the terraces allong the picnic area. Stay off the spillway concrete.
c. Please do not ride on any maintained grass anywhere in the flood control office area. One exception is the entance to the Piney point trail.
d. To access the West side of the dam please carry your bike down the path marked with the Heritage trail sign (yellow rectangle) or ride accross the ledge-pack road under the gatehouse bridge (the snowmobile corridor).
e. The best bet is to stay on the marked trails double- track roads.
f. Yield to pedestrians. |
