This beautiful and well-maintained rail trail runs for 25 miles from Lebanon to Danbury NH. This trail is nearly flat and passed through historic villages and by scenic lakes, streams and hills along the old railroad bed of the Boston & Maine Railroad Northern Line.

This trail is well marked, has many access points with ample parking, and restrooms! This is definitely a "Family Friendly" ride as it is off the road, the surface is primarily crushed stone, and there are no big hills.

This ride is highly recommended for the fall when the foliage is spectacular!

My wife and I and another couple rode the trail from the Grafton General Store parking area, through Canaan, almost to Enfield (10 miles one direction). The trail is really terrific (only complaint is that you always hear the road noise from nearby Route 4).

The section we rode passed a number of small lakes and ponds, and we were treated to seeing several beavers and a great gray heron. There was also a great view of Cardigan Mountain across one of the lakes.

Three of us rode mountain bikes, and one person rode a hybrid with "road-style" tires. The hybrid with the road tires was a bit challenging in some of the softer areas and a few areas with larger stones - but it was manageable. Not recommended for road bikes! Most of the trail was hard packed cinders or dirt - overall a very pleasant ride.

We plan on going back and riding the other sections of this 25 mile trail (we understand that is it even more scenic in the Lebanon area with many bridges/trestles).

This is Highly Recommended!
