User Rating: / 0

Google announced today that it has added "By Bicycle" as an option when creating a route in Google Maps. They are incorporating the more than 12,000 miles of bike trail data from the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy's TrailLink.com database along with other bicycle route data.

The feature appears when you use the "Get Directions" feature of Google Maps.

Protect our trails - stay off when muddy!
User Rating: / 0

Thanks to NEMBA for alerting all of us to the damage that can be done to our mountain biking trails if we ride on them during "Mud Season"!

Mountain biking on trails that are very muddy can cause permanent damage to the trails. According to the article "Just Say "No" to Mud" :

"Just because you "can" ride, doesn't mean that you "should." Sometimes, if you really love riding, you should stay off the trail and seek other ways to make the new season the best it can be."

The article also recommends a "Lawn Test" - ride your mountain bike on your lawn and if you see tracks in the lawn, then you should NOT be riding on trails. The group recommends riding on the road or packed/paved rail trails until the local trails are dry enough to use without causing damage.
